Yes but where will I put my...

Studio apartment floor plan
So I think I've settled on where I'm going to be moving in the next month or three. Not a lot of space, but I don't have a lot of stuff anymore either. And it's refreshingly cheap. Anyways, I think I may end up paring down the amount of stuff I own even more once I get everything shoved in that 400-some square foot space. But there is a washer & dryer. And a dishwasher. And a HUGE walk-in closet--even if you have to get to it through the bathroom. How did they smoke that idea up? But there's lots of green space in the complex, and it's dog friendly, of course.

I called mom from Fort Wayne this afternoon to get her opinion of it and basically got a lot of resistance and critical questions and just general not-thriled-with-the-idea-ness. "Well, this is pretty sudden. I've never even heard you talk about this before." In short, she icked my wow. And I was bummed. Not to mention PMS-y on top of that.

But I thought about it, crunched numbers, talked to Racheal a lot, called my dad, and just generally decided it's time to do this thing. Mom may not be ready yet, but I really think I am. I want some space of my own. I'm sick of the commute from Auburn to Fort Wayne and back again. I'd like to live closer to where there's actually potential for a social life. And hell, I'm THIRTY years old.

Yeah, it could be a lil' tight financially for a while, especially if a raise and/or full-time doesn't come through at work. But I CAN swing it. Plus internet access is a luxury that could potentially be deferred, and I've never really had a need for cable TV either.

And so it begins. Hours spent studying the floor plan, mentally arranging and rearranging what little furniture I have:

Full-sized bed, rocking chair, dining room table & chairs. 4' folding table that serves as a desk. Couple of bookshelves, nightstand, lamps, perhaps a hand-me-down recliner. No couch, but that's ok, I'll just use the bed like I did before in my studio in Lafayette. Perhaps acquire a large beanbag or Foof chair...

Fussing over what will go where, mentally inventorying the contents of my storage space back in Lafayette that I will eventually have to rent a truck to go get. Fenangling what might stay at my friend Terri's place in Lafayette, what I might want to please bang my wife later but not yet, and what I might try to pawn off on her (big long dresser that I really never want to have to move again--it's come all the way from California with me and it's losing its charm).

I'm guardedly excited. It'll probably be on the order of 2 months before the move-in date. I've not technically been assigned a specific apartment yet, but word on the street is that there's a particularly cute little upstairs studio way in the back with a screen door and everything that's coming open in June. Yeah, I'm getting excited alright.
